Code of Conduct for the Supply of Electricity to Small Use Customers Review 2024

The Electricity Code Consultative Committee (ECCC) has commenced its statutory review of the Code of Conduct for the Supply of Electricity to Small Use Customers (2022).

The Electricity Code regulates and controls the conduct of retailers and distributors that supply electricity to residential and small business customers. The Code covers a broad range of areas including billing, payment, financial hardship, disconnection and complaints.

The objective of the ECCC’s review is to re-assess the suitability of the provisions of the Code for the purposes of the Electricity Industry Act 2004.

For more information about the Committee refer to the Electricity Code Consultative Committee webpage.

NOTE: The ECCC has reviewed the Code and has published a draft review report for public consultation which closes on 21 October 2024. The report makes 13 draft recommendations to strengthen and introduce new protections and to streamline the Code. The report also seeks evidence to understand if Code changes are justified to address four issues on which the ECCC has not yet formed a view.
