The Independent Market Operator advised the ERA of two alleged breaches of the Wholesale Electricity Market Rules by Vinalco Energy Pty Ltd on 23 June 2014, and 4 July 2014.
On 4 July 2014 and 18 August 2014 the ERA issued a notice to Vinalco advising it had commenced investigations into the alleged breaches (first investigation and second investigation).
On 30 October 2015, the ERA completed its investigations and published its findings in relation to the:
- First Investigation into Vinalco Energy Pty Ltd pursuant to clause 2.16.9E of the Wholesale Electricity Market Rules
- Second Investigation into Vinalco Energy Pty Ltd pursuant to clause 2.16.9E of the Wholesale Electricity Market Rules.

On 1 September 2017 the Electricity Review Board published its decision together with reasons in Application No 1 of 2016. Information is available on the Energy Dispute Arbitrator's website.
The ERA will not make further public comments about the pricing behaviour of Vinalco.
