The ERA has completed its review of the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) Procedure ERA Triggering the Supplementary Essential System Services Mechanism (SESSM) according to the Procedure Change Process specified in the WEM Rules (chapter 2.10). This WEM Procedure outlines how the ERA will assess inefficient market outcomes to trigger the SESSM.
On 9 August 2024, Energy Policy WA published an Exposure Draft of WEM Amending Rules (FCESS Cost Review Amendments).
On 13 September 2024, the ERA released the draft ERA Triggering the SESSM WEM Procedure with a Procedure Change Proposal, detailing ERA’s proposed changes to the WEM Procedure and the rationale behind them. The ERA sought stakeholder feedback by 14 October 2024 but did not receive any comments.
On 29 October 2024, the Minister for Energy gazetted Amending Rules under the WEM Amendment (FCESS Cost Review) Rules 2024.
On 27 November 2024, the ERA published a Procedure Change Report and final ERA Triggering the SESSM WEM Procedure.
The ERA Triggering the SESSM WEM Procedure (version 2) will take effect from 27 November 2024.
