In our 2010 assessment of the Wholesale Electricity Market, the ERA noted that a number of new entrants became established, and observed increased trade volumes in the Short Term Energy Market and greater bilateral contracting activities between market participants other than Verve Energy and Synergy.
The report also commented on a number of specific factors limiting the progression to a more competitive electricity market.
The 2010 review also included a three year review of whether the Wholesale Electricity Market was achieving the market objectives set out in the Electricity Industry Act 2004.
Our discussion paper was published in June 2010 and we received 11 submissions from the public. Our report was delivered to the Minister for Energy where it was tabled in Parliament on 11 August 2011.
