Our 2014 review of the effectiveness of the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) coincided with the State Government’s Electricity Market Review (EMR) initiated by the Minister for Energy on 6 March 2014. This review covers several areas of concern that have been raised in past reports we have provided to the Minister for Energy.
This review also included a three year review of the extent to which the market objectives set out in the Electricity Industry Act 2004 have been, or are being, achieved. The last triennial report was undertaken in 2011.
We held an informal workshop on 25 September 2014 to seek views from stakeholders for inclusion in the discussion papers for the Wholesale Electricity Market review and the Electricity Generation and Retail Corporation Regulatory Scheme review. Our discussion paper was published in November 2014 and we received five submissions from the public. Our Report was tabled in Parliament on 8 September 2015.
