Various regulations and instruments provide additional protection to gas customers who are considered to have little or no market power. These customers are referred to as “small use customers” and are generally comprised of residential and small business customers.
A “small use customer” is a customer who consumes no more than 1TJ of gas per year.
Contestable customer
All gas customers are contestable. This means that any gas customer may choose their retailer, such as Alinta Energy, Kleenheat or Synergy.
However, Synergy is only allowed to sell gas to customers who consume 0.18TJ or more of gas per year.
